    I am doing an end of the semester project on a floodplain in my area (Lochmere Lake- Cary, NC) and could use some advice. I want to go out with a GPS and map the area myself.     I work for a regional council of governments. Some of the cities that are members to my agency are not GIS-savvy, and still appreciate a good paper map. Case in point: my organization is the coordinating the changes to the Census tracts and block groups in our county. Most of our member cities have GIS...

    Terry, That certainly is an interesting question. Are paper maps becoming extinct? I don't think so...There will always be a need for paper maps and there are suitable formats out there that are specifically designed for printing. PDF is one such format only you have know a bit about printing in...

  • Putting it on Paper

    In the course of my work, I often produce good, old-fashioned, paper maps. I do this mainly because they need to be taken out into the field (and I am often the guy who gets lucky enough to take them), but also because the president of my company appreciates a nicely put together piece of cartography...
